  • “ Heard good things about this restaurant so I decided to give it a try. I also love yakisoba and okonomiyaki so I was pretty excited. We ordered the yakisoba, squid okonomiyaki, and added aonori & katsuobushi. Personally, I was pretty disappointed in the food. It tasted good if you didn’t think of it as Japanese food. I’ve had yakisoba and okonomiyaki countless of times at various Japanese restaurants and even in Japan. This is not authentic yakisoba or okonomiyaki. The yakisoba didn’t use thin noodles like they should but rather thick udon noodles and had flavours that made it taste like Chinese stir-fry noodles from a food court. It didn’t have the signature sweet taste of yakisoba that I love. As for the okonomiyaki, the pancake itself was pretty bland and needed mayonnaise to taste good. However, the mayonnaise they gave us was not enough for the whole pancake. Other than the not-authentic Japanese taste, the atmosphere was very cozy and aesthetic. Service was friendly as well. No wait on a weekday afternoon at around 2pm. Listen, the food is good, but don’t come here expecting authentic Japanese food or you’ll be disappointed. ”

  • “ Got the deluxe seafood, it’s tasty and really good proportions. Also, the first time I came, I really liked their beef curry. Sadly, every time I go back, it’s crossed out on the menu. ”

  • “ Ok, so I visited this restaurant for the second time ever after over 10 years. I love okonomiyaki and have not found a decent one in Toronto yet, so I had to give Okonomi House another try - they must be doing something right, right? I must admit that I was a bit of a snob when I tried the restaurant for the first time. I had gone to Japan not too long before that and had the experience of an okonomiyaki being cooked on a grill right in front of me. I was so disappointed (at the time) when I discovered that Okonomi House cooked the okonomiyaki in the kitchen before serving it to you on a plate. Anyway, that was then. Today, I dropped in around 8:40 pm, hoping they would still let me dine in - their call for last order is 8:45 pm (9 pm for takeout), so all good. I ordered the bacon okonomiyaki and the bonito/seaweed add-on for 50 cents (interesting pricing, but can't have okonomiyaki without it). The bonito flakes came in a small bowl - the flakes are not as big as they could be, but fine. The seaweed came in a shaker. The okonomiyaki came on a round cast iron plate. It's larger than Japanese portions for sure. For $13, it's pretty good value for money. The mayo is dolloped in the middle, which is a bit harder to enjoy than if the mayo was drizzled over the entire pancake. The batter is denser than what you might get in Japan, but it's not bad at all. The unique thing about this pancake is the crunchy cabbage; it's different, but I like it. Flavour is decent, though I could use more ginger. Overall, it's not 100% authentic, but enjoyable nonetheless. I will come back the next time I am missing Japan. ”

  • “ Didn’t get the Okonomi but I got the beef curry and didn’t regret it at all. It was the best curry I’ve gotten as the beef was so tender and the texture was perfect. Rice was not too sticker or dry, and the radish wasn’t too sour or strong. In addition, the prices are also very reasonable for the house of food they give. Came in right before a line started forming :) excited to come back to try new items. ”

  • “ Good choice for those wanna try Japanese food. But the sauce is too much I think haha. And the pudding is great as well. The service is great and the restaurant is clean and tidy. ”

  • “ My friend suggested we try this place, and it was quite good! Haven’t had okonomiyaki since I was in Japan so it was a surprise to find a place in Toronto that served it. Good portions to be shared between two people! It is a tighter space with many people. We had our coats and bags coming after work; there wasn’t much space to fit everything. Would come again to satisfy my cravings! ”

  • “ It's a lot smaller on the inside than I thought it was, but it makes up for it in taste. I think their Okonomi-Yaki options (at least the chicken, that's the only one I tried) are a worthy successor to Buttermilk pancakes! ”

  • “ Feb 27, 2025: 4th visit (4/5 stars) We finally tried the limited Original Beef Curry dish and were sadly disappointed. The curry was too salty even with mixing with the rice. The beef was tender but did not give you that good umami flavour and texture. As well, the beef pieces were on the small side. Our go to favourite the Beef Teriyaki was awesome. The beef was soft, tender, juicy and delicious. Would definitely recommend. The Miso Soup was good. The home made Custard Pudding was delicious. It was not too sweet and had a great texture. Would definitely recommend. — Dec 18, 2024: 3rd visit (4/5 stars) We were hoping to try their limited Original Beef Curry dish which they only make in small batches each Wednesday but luck was not on our side as they were not making this dish this week :( Instead, we had the Yakisoba, Burger Steak Teriyaki, and Beef Teriyaki Yakisoba was okay. It was savoury but felt it was missing something. Burger Steak Teriyaki was good. Burger Steak size was generous and delicious. Beef Teriyaki was awesome. The beef was tender and savoury. Pretty much, our favourite dish at Okonomi House Restaurant. — Nov 16, 2024: 2nd visit (5/5 stars) We were craving some good Beef Teriyaki and Okonomiyaki and Okonomi House Restaurant satisfied our cravings. The Beef Teriyaki was awesome. Would definitely recommend. The Pork Okonomiyaki with Bonito Flakes and Dried Seaweed was savoury and delicious. Of the three Okonomiyaki (beef, pork or seafood) that we tried, the Beef Okonomiyaki by far was the best :) — Sept 2024: 1st visit (5/5 stars) Beef teriyaki was amazing! The beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked with a good helping of stir fried bean sprouts. Would definitely recommend. The Seafood Okonomiyaki with Bonito Flakes and Dried Seaweed was good but felt it was missing something. The seafood was delicious and okonomiyaki was good but felt it lacked in chopped cabbage to give it the crunchiness factor. Last time we had the beef okonomiyaki and it was perfect. So was a little disappointed with seafood okonomiyaki. ”
